This piece was one of the first designs where I began using geometric shapes in the composition. The colors are non-primary, and are "soft" to better express the symbology of the painting. The tee pee is vacant, alluding to an empty home. The large butterfly represents, "The Butterfly Clan", the totem to which my birthdate corresponds, to the Native American calendar.
The man and woman are looking in opposite directions, showing a split in unity. The vertical trees on the right passing over the cloud represents the passage of time. Because I could not come up with a title that worked, I named it Design 1222...the day it was completed - 12/22/2003.
